Mercedes

230SL Pagoda

Germany, 1967
170 w x 70 d x 51 h inches
This car originally belonged to the actress Donna Reed. Manufactured in Germany, this example is one of only 185 cars of this model produced in the year 1967 (of which 142 were shipped to the United States). Sold with original manuals, service booklets, various service records and ephemera.
The styling of the 230SL is both conservative in its silhouette and sporty in its details. An unmistakable SL grill with its prominent Mercedes star is framed by large headlights and a masculine hood whose additional midline hump accommodates an upright, 6-cylinder engine. This example has the optional convertible hardtop with its distinctive Pagoda roofline, curved upward slightly at the sides to increase rigidity and sightlines. More of a luxury touring car than an all-out sports car, the Mercedes 230SL has outstanding handling qualities and a high degree of comfort.
