Signed, dated and titled verso. John McLaughlin, a self-taught painter, conceptualized his art as a modern, Western version of the traditional Japanese prints and paintings in which he dealt for much of his life. Above all, he strove for total abstraction and contemplation through purity of form and harmony of color.
