Pedro Friedeberg

Double Foot and Hand loveseat
Mexico, c. 1986
carved Mexican mahogany
42 w × 32 d × 37 h in (107 × 81 × 94 cm)

This loveseat was custom ordered by the art dealer and muse Edith Coliere of Edan Gallery in Acapulco, who arrived in Mexico in 1937 and befriended the intellectual circle of Mexican muralists and writers. Coliere ordered the seat expressly for the art collector and designer Peter Von Serbun of Mexico City. The chairs are custom made from matching wood and were used independently by Von Serbun as bedside tables. At the time of Von Serbun's death, the chairs were given to Coliere as a testament to their great friendship. Both chairs have the artist's signature on bottom in marker.
