J.B. Blunk

An Expressive Interpretation of Form

This table illustrates the brilliant craftsmanship of the chainsaw-wielding designer, J.B. Blunk. Carved from a solid piece of buckeye burl, this sculptural tabletop with shaped legs parades the organic splendor of the material while showcasing Blunk's aptitude and vision for creating beautiful forms.

Blunk began making wood sculpture and furniture in the late 1950s. He had studied ceramics and served an apprenticeship in Japan where Blunk and Isamu Noguchi became close friends. The influence of his experience and friendship is evident throughout Blunk's oeuvre with his reverent approach to his medium and his expressive interpretation of form.
