This rare double incalmo vessel by Thomas Stearns is part of series exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 1962. Its outline is similar to the well known Cappello del Doge, but the form of this vase is compressed, almost flattened. With highly iridized gray and black layers separated by a thin amber band, this vase may be the only example of this model. This vase is illustrated in Franco Deboni’s seminal work Murano ‘900, and remains one of Stearns’ most accomplished designs.
