The present lot is one of twenty-four works acquired over several years from art sales benefiting the AIDS Community Research Initiative of America (ACRIA). Each represents a commitment to the organization’s mission as well as a celebration of the creative community who believe in a world without AIDS. Since 1993, ACRIA’s art sale benefit, Unframed and its variations, have invited leading contemporary artists from around the world to donate works in support of the mission to provide essential AIDS research, treatment, and education programs. ACRIA’s widely successful efforts have raised millions in the fight against HIV and have contributed to the development of 20 medications approved by the FDA as new treatments for the disease.

As the Unframed art sale events by ACRIA gained recognition, enthusiastic buyers camped on the streets of New York for the opportunity to participate.
