Paul Frankl’s organically shaped coffee table with inset planter was selected by Sam Marx for his own Chicago home located at 1325 Astor Street. The table was centrally positioned in his living room amidst stunning works of art by Picasso, Amedeo Modigliani and Isamu Noguchi. The table, and artworks can be seen in a photograph of Sam and Florene Marx published in Life magazine in 1952.

The present owner understands this table to have come out of a Chicago interior many years earlier. The exact interior and provenance is not known, though its Chicago connections suggest that it is highly probable that this is the same table that the fashionable Sam Marx lived with.
