Almost inevitably there are tensions in the picture, tensions between the outside world and the inside world. For me, a successful picture resolves these tensions without eliminating them.
The original owner of these prints received them directly from Aaron Siskind, who was a teacher at Rhode Island School of Design in Providence at the time. The original owner was a graphic designer at Malcolm Grear, Inc.—Grear was also a RISD alum and teacher and they had met through him.
