Stops Along the Way

Eric Bauldelaire's Anabasis X-Rayograms

Borrowing its name from the Greek term for a journey or ascent, the Anabasis series explores how movement has the ability to transform, and examines the traces that are left behind. To create his X-Rayograms, Eric Baudelaire sent unopened film rolls on journeys across the globe. Sometimes transported in carry-on luggage, or shipped in the mail, the film underwent a series of exposures at different airport security x-ray stations along the way. Their paths are detailed in the title of the works (Tokyo Beirut New York Paris) and the outcomes are always different, resulting in unique, cosmic works displaying the impressions of the places they have been.
