Wright is pleased to present the collection of Dr. Martyna Miskinis. As a medical doctor caught between converging Soviet and German forces in her home country of Lithuania during World War II, Dr. Miskinis eventually immigrated to the United States in 1949. Since the early 1970s, Dr. Miskinis has been an advocate of the arts; she was an avid member and supporter of both the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Archives of American Art at the Smithsonian Museum as well as a collector of contemporary works. The Miskinis collection is highlighted by a remarkable collection of screenprints by Andy Warhol, a mirrored Michelangelo Pistoletto and a stunning Alex Katz painting. As cosmopolitan as the collection is, many of the works were acquired through local galleries that have since become important to the art historical landscape of the Detroit area.
On September 23rd, Wright will sell works from Dr. Miskinis’ compelling collection in our Art + Design auction. Highlights from the collection will be on view in our New York gallery starting September 9th.
