John Young was the first human being in history to orbit the Moon solo on board the CSM Charlie Brown when the LM Snoopy with Thomas Stafford and Eugene Cernan on board separated from Charlie Brown to explore the lunar surface at low altitude.

Young was the first human being in history to be isolated from both his Home Planet, 240,000 miles away, and his crewmates orbiting the Moon in another craft. He took this photograph as he was orbiting solo on board the CSM Charlie Brown through the 80mm lens looking north over highlands located between the Sea of Crises (top right) and the Sea of Fertility (bottom) at an altitude of about 60 nautical miles over the lunar nearside. Latitude / Longitude: 6° N / 50° E.
