A Traditional Art, Reborn

Ingegerd Silow's Scandinavian Flatweave Carpets

Synthesizing elements of the early 20th century Swedish Grace Movement and influences from her travels abroad, Ingeborg Silow updated the traditional Scandinavian rölakan flatweave carpet for the modern era. Influenced by her predecessor Märta Måås-Fjetterström, Silow continued the legacy of creating woven works exemplary in both design and execution and further revived traditional weaving styles through her partnerships with commercial home furnishing companies. Such collaboration popularized this updated incarnation of Scandinavian minimalism by helping to make such designs broadly available to the public.
