This prototype was given to Richard Schultz by Don Petitt, his roommate while a student at the Illinois Institute of Design, Chicago and later a colleague at Knoll. Petit worked with Eero Saarinen on the development of the Tulip tables and chairs for Knoll. This rare prototype created in Saarinen’s studio was executed using wood turned on a lathe and differs in shape and size from the production version.
