Described in the Washington Post as looking “like giant amber bullets, or ice missiles with an insect payload,” Finnish artist and designer Stefan Lindfors's lighted Ephemeron sculptures conjure otherworldly realms, emanating a soft glow from forms that are at once futuristic and organic. Inside each towering steel and fiberglass structure is a small painted dragonfly, an insect which has a lifespan of approximately one week to fifty-six days, corresponding to Lindfors's title for the work: Ephemeron translates to “short-lived” in Greek. Haunting and luminous, these sculptures serve as poetic meditations on impermanence, transformation, and the delicate beauty of life and light.
