Gio Ponti and Piero Fornasetti

armchair from Vembi-Burroughs, Genoa
Italy, 1950
lithographic transfer-printed skai, ash, brass
22¼ w × 20½ d × 33 h in (57 × 52 × 84 cm)

Ponti designed the interior of the offices for Vembi-Burroughs, a calculator manufacturing company with locations in Turin and Genoa. Using a yellow palette in Genoa and a blue palette in Turin, each space reflected a sense of luminosity and openness typical of Ponti's masterful architecture. The designs incorporate a gracefulness within their functionalist aesthetic. Works produced in collaboration with Piero Fornasetti appeared in both locations.
