Craft and Design

Richard John

Richard John started his career working for industrial design offices such as Henry Dreyfuss Associates in New York before relocating to Santa Cruz, California and focusing on his woodworking career. His sculptural forms and designed objects have been included in many exhibitions including California Craft IX in Sacramento and Craft Multiples at the Renwick Gallery, Washington DC.

My main satisfaction comes from the process of designing and making the pieces, and my personal attachment to most pieces seems to evaporate soon after they are completed. My happiest discovery about craft as livelihood is that it contains within it unlimited potential for freedom and change.
