Guidette Carbonell

Born in 1910, French ceramic and textile artist Guidette Carbonell studied painting before turning her attention to pottery. She had her first solo exhibition at the age of 18 where her brightly enameled works displayed her interest in nature, mythology and the animal world. Carbonell’s designs are both joyful and fantastical while displaying Cubist influence and a mastery of the material. Her first retrospective was held in 2008 at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, further solidifying her as one of the most important figures of contemporary French ceramics.
