The Smyrna rug is based on Albers's 1925 study of the same design which resides in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. This handwoven example is the showroom sample from the Jack Lenor Larsen store in New York and is slightly smaller in size than other examples manufactured by the textile designer. A full-size example was utilized at the LongHouse, Larsen’s famous estate and showroom in East Hampton, New York.
