The process to create these complex models began by carving blocks of wood in the shape of the foam chair sections then wet leather was stretched over them to complete the models. These models were used by Richard Schultz to sell the design to Stowe Davis, who later produced the chairs. Schultz preferred the armless chair, believing this to be the purest expression of the form.
